Charge filed after pool contact

A 55-year-old Northport man was arraigned on a criminal sexual conduct charge (CSC) resulting from an incident at the David A. Warm swimming pool earlier this month.

Joseph R. Terhark, of 610 Warren St., was formally charged Tuesday with one count of fourth-degree CSC, a high court misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause statement on the criminal complaint, a victim identified as “Jane Doe” was swimming at the pool on Feb. 2 when Terhark stuck his hands down the back of her swimsuit bottoms, touching her back end.

Terhark contacted the Enterprise, saying in part, “It was nothing more than an accident, and my lawyers will prove that in court ... I love kids and would never hurt them.”

Fourth-degree CSC is punishable by up to two years in jail and/or $500.

A preliminary hearing has been set for March 13.
