Empire Village Budget Hearing

More property tax revenue will fund a slightly higher spending plan for Empire Village if a proposed budget is adopted on Tuesday by the Village Council. Tax revenue is expected to increase $7,500 to $288,000, while General Fund expenses are projected to increase from $293,536 to $300,361.

A public hearing on the budget will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Township Hall in Empire.

Shining a light on winter’s fever

“Here’s Johnny!” may send shivers down your spine at the Old Art Building Friday at 7:30 p.m. The classic horror film “The Shining” will be offered along with popcorn, peanuts, photo ops, contests and maze games as part of a Cabin Fever Reliever evening offered by the Leelanau Community Cultural Center.

Southern charm, Norsemen venue

The North Carolines will grace the auditorium stage of Suttons Bay High School Saturday with southern charm and American roots. The concert will be hosted by the Friends of Fine Arts organization, whose projects promote offerings for Norsemen students. The concert starts at 7 p.m. with tickets available at the door.
