The push paid off, too, as Pershinske improved seven spots from his finish at the MHSAA Division 2 meet as a freshman.

The Leland sophomore posted times of 32.31 and 31.44 at Schuss Mountain Monday for a two-run time of 1:03.75, good enough for 12th place in slalom.

“That was with the encouragement of my coach,” he said of Glen Lake coach John Kasben. “John was there all day helping me out like always. He was awesome through the whole race, doing whatever he needed to do to help. I really appreciate that from him. Mark Fisher, too.”

Of the skiers finishing ahead of him, three were sophomores. Pershinske, a USSA Racing member, is friends with all three.

Kasben was impressed with the 12th-place showing.

“Not bad for a sophomore,” he said.
