Alcohol test yields felony

JOUPPERI JOUPPERI A 60-year-old Suttons Bay man has been charged with third-offense drunk driving after driving to work.

Daniel E. Joupperi of 941 S. Elm St. was arraigned Tuesday in 86th District Court in connection with an incident that took place Friday morning in Suttons Bay Township.

According to a felony complaint, Joupperi was seen driving his truck to a party store shortly before 9:30 a.m.

His blood-alcohol content (BAC) at the time he drove was tested at .33 and .34 — more than four times the legal limit of .08 and twice the .17 BAC designated for “super drunk” drivers.

Joupperi has two previous drunk driving convictions: one in Traverse City that dates back to 2006 and a second in Leelanau County recorded in 2015.

If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison and a fine ranging from $500 to $5,000.

Joupperi remains free on bond pending a March 27 probable cause hearing.
