ALAYNA TORREY is a student of Suttons Bay Schools and she will be graduating this spring with both her high school diploma and associates degree from Northwestern Michigan College. Name: Alayna Torrey

Town or township of residence: Bingham Township

Resident since: 2002

Age and birthplace: 18 years old and Traverse City

Occupation: I work at Wares Brothers Frosty Treat and Send Receiving Station and am a full-time student at Northwestern Michigan College.

Marital status: Single

You live in Leelanau County because: My family has strong connections to the area; my grandparents own a farm next door to the house I grew up in. I was very fortunate to be raised and sent to school in Leelanau County.

Last good movie you saw: I recently saw “Black Panther” and really enjoyed. Marvel movies always seem to be produced very well.

Last good book you read: My school and work schedules don’t allow for much leisure reading, but I really liked the textbook for my Modern Social Problems class at NMC. I enjoy learning about the social issues that we have around the world today and then using that information to participate in class discussions. If we don’t discuss them openly, we can’t fix them.

If you could trade places with one person for one day, it would be: I would probably choose Jennifer Lopez. She’s just someone who I feel carries herself with dignity and I’ve always wondered what her daily life would be like.

Things important to you that you’ve accomplished so far: I haven’t completed it yet, but I’m looking forward to finishing the Early College Program this May. Through the program, I’ve been able to take college classes since my Junior year at Suttons Bay schools and I will be graduating with my associates degree from NMC this spring.

What you hope to be doing in 10 years: I hope to have a family of my own, be living somewhere warm, and working as a physical therapist.

Things you lose sleep over: Homework

If you could change one thing in Leelanau County it would be: I would improve the condition of the roads so that there aren’t so many hazardous potholes.

Favorite dessert: Cheesecake of any kind is my favorite.

Are you a coffee drinker? Yes, I stop regularly at Aroma’s Coffee in Traverse City on my way to class. Peddling Beans is my favorite coffee shop out on the peninsula, though.

Favorite place in Leelanau County: Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. It takes you to a breathtaking view of the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan.

If you had more time you would: I would do a lot more volunteer work like I did in high school.

The words that best describe you are: Responsible, ambitious, and kind.
