Glen Lake students, parents loyal to their teams

What’s the community response been like amid Glen Lake’s pair of deep playoff runs?

“How some fans have made every game is incredible,” Glen Lake Athletic Director Jen Johnston said on Tuesday. “It’s been exciting and exhausting for us all at the same time, but you never know when you’ll be in this position again. You have to soak it up.

“That’s what it’s all about.”

The Glen Lake boys were slated to do just that after press time yesterday. A police-and-ambulance escort was scheduled to lead the Lakers out of Leelanau County on their way to East Lansing at about 3:30 p.m.

Johnston said the district planned to send three fan buses like it did for the girls semifinal game last Thursday.

Student-to-student support has been noteworthy as members of the boys team consistently made their way to girls games and vice versa.

Others have shown support in a trio of basketball pep rallies at the school.

“Our elementary students bring so much energy to it,” Johnston said.

Parents, meanwhile, continue to fill seats and support their Lakers — even if it costs them a vacation.

Some boys basketball parents are rumored to have spring break plans conflicting with the boys trip to the Breslin Center this week. They’re choosing to put basketball first.

“Our parents have been great,” Johnston said.
