Reece Hazelton, Xander Okerlund and Cade Peterson have taken turns as the top scorer for Glen Lake all season.

Last Wednesday, two of them shared the spotlight.

Hazelton erupted for a career-high 29 points and Okerlund added 25 in the regional final against Whittemore- Prescott in Houghton Lake as Glen Lake coasted to a 75-46 win.

“He’s been amazing,” Okerlund said of Hazelton, a sophomore. “He’s playing the best I’ve ever seen him play, and right when we need it.”

Hazelton shot 10-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc; Okerlund finished 9-of-19 and buried 5-of-10 attempts from downtown. He also grabbed five rebounds and distributed three assists.

“Everything was falling,” Hazelton said. “It was nice to see. A lot of fun.”

The red-hot Lakers outscored the Cardinals 15-13 in the first quarter, 20-8 in the second, 22-9 in the third and 18-16 in the fourth. Glen Lake shot 17-of-36 from the floor, 9-of-23 from 3 and 14-of-17 from the free throw line.

Not bad.

“We shot really well that night,” Glen Lake coach Rich Ruelas said of the effort. “We were exhausted from the stretch of games we had, but our guys just hung tough. I gave the boys a few days off after that one.”

Peterson, meanwhile, joined his “big three” comrades in double figures with 10 points, adding 10 rebounds.
