Construction Code Authority

Centerville Township

James Ladd (David B. Slanec) residential addition of mudroom/ laundry and screened in porch at 4147 S. Hemlock St. ($112,240).

The number of building permits issued by the Construction Code Authority (CCA) slowed to a trickle in the past week with only one going in the books from March 23 through last Thursday, March 29.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t projects in the works.

The time of the year and a lack of inspectors available at the CCA appear to be the cause of the slowdown.

“We have a stack of applications in, but there are a lot of things needed before the permits are issued,” said Linda Allen, administrative secretary/ permit processor at the CCA.

Among the documents needed are a land use permit, soil erosion permit, water and sewer permits from the health department and driveway permit from the county Road Commission.

“A lot of people have gotten out of Dodge before they get slammed,” Allen said.

This would also apply to people working in the various agencies that process the supporting documents needed.

“It’s spring break. It’s always like this at this time of the year,” she said.
