About 20 spots left in youth trap league

The Cedar Rod & Gun Educational Foundation is once again sponsoring a spring youth trap league, which is slated to start April 29 with a registration and orientation session at 1 p.m.

Once participants are divided appropriately at the conclusion of the orientation session, trap-league action will continue on each of the following five Sundays: May 6, May 13, May 20 and May 27. The annual awards picnic and “fun shot” on June 3. The shoots last from 1 to about 4 p.m.

All girls and boys ages 12 through 18 are welcome to register, but the league is limited to 40 shooters.

“We’re half full at this point,” Cedar Rod & Gun Club President Tim Stein said Monday. “The sooner the better.”

The league has junior, intermediate and senior divisions based on experience and a handicap system that allows everyone to be competitive. All necessary equipment (shotguns, shells, eye protection, hearing protection, clay targets) will be provided at no charge.

Qualified instructors will be on hand and proper safety practices will be stressed at all times.
