Hunters Banquet moved to weapons-friendly facility in T-C

The Northwest Michigan Quality Deer Management Association Branch’s 10th annual Hunters Banquet has been moved and rescheduled.

Ryan Ratajczak, treasurer, said board members made the decision following a notification from the Great Wolf Lodge saying its banquet facility would not allow knives and firearms — popular items on the banquet’s list of auction items and raffle prizes.

“We felt this was the right move to make for both our organization and members,” Ratajczak wrote in an email to members. “Unfortunately we were not told about this when we booked the facility many months ago.”

The Hagerty Conference Center of Traverse City, a weapons-friendly facility, will host the banquet Saturday, April 21. Doors open at 5 p.m.; dinner is served at 6:30. Tickets are $55 for singles, $80 for couples, $30 for kids 17. Admission buys a year membership with the branch and supports the organization and its mission.

“It’s open to anyone who wants to spend an evening with us,” said Andrew Milliron, the branch president and a Maple City sportsman. “It’s a fundraiser for us. We’re just trying to get the word out about who we are and what we do. This is a nonprofit organization promoting better deer and better deer hunting from a national level and local level through education and outreach.”
