County Dates

Earth Day trees arriving later

If you’d like to plant trees for Earth Day, the timing of the midspring storm could come into play.

The storm has caused the Leelanau County Conservation District to put off delivery for its annual plant sale one week, until 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. next Friday, April 27. Nurseries in the Ludington area have been unable to dig up tree seedlings that were buried in snow.

The sale is held in the storage building at the Leelanau Enterprise. Plenty of Earth Day events can be found on the cover of Section Two.

Stuff yourself with pancakes, syrup

The Empire Lions Club will be serving up breakfast at its Pancake Feast on Sunday. Enjoy lots of pancakes, pure maple syrup, eggs, homemade sausage, fruit and beverage at the Empire Township Hall.

Flapjacks will be served from from 8-11 a.m. Proceeds will be used by the club for several projects in Leelanau County.

Sip some roast with your rep

State Rep. Curt VanderWall is inviting residents to attend an afternoon coffee hour tomorrow at the Leelanau County Government Center in Suttons Bay. The informal meeting provides county residents a chance to share their thoughts, ideas and concerns about state government.

Tomorrow’s event will begin at 3 p.m. VanderWall is not seeking reelection to the House, instead filing to run for the state Senate.
