Erin Shaunea Grant, 20, of Suttons Bay and Preston Weaver, 21, of Milwaukee pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the Nov. 22 death of 31-year-old Kevin D. Yannett of Suttons Bay.

Grant and Weaver were arrested after an investigation determined that they had sold heroin to Yannett and delivered the drugs to a home on M-22 south of Suttons Bay, where the overdose took place.

They were taken into custody at a home on Ki-Dah-Keh Road in Peshawbestown and charged with delivery of a controlled substance causing death. The charges were changed when a lab determined Yannett had been sold fentonyl.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to lesser charges last month. Grant was found guilty of delivery of a schedule 2 controlled substance, a seven-year felony.

She was sentenced to 12 months in jail with credit for 159 days served. and was ordered to pay $5,548 in fines and costs.

Weaver pleaded guilty to delivery of a Schedule 2 controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

He was sentenced to two years years on the delivery charge and six months on the tampering charge. Both sentences will be serve consecutively.

Weaver was given credit for 159 days served.

Leelanau County Prosecutor Joseph T. Hubbell is pressing for more arrests in the prosecution of others who may have been involved in the drug sale Yanett thought was buying heroin.

“(The guilty pleas) close those cases, but open the door to future proceedings against other individuals,” Hubbell said. “There were more people who were involved and who are culpable, and that’s who I intend to proceed against.”
