Socialism represents ‘gospel of envy,’ ‘sharing of misery’

To the editor:

After reading WD Bushey’s May 3 letter to the editor touting the benefits of socialism and bigger government, I felt the need to respond. It was Winston Churchill who stated “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

There is little difference between communism, socialism and fascism. Communism is control of the population by force. Socialism is control of the population by vote and fascism is indirect control of the population by government controlling industry. It’s like the difference between murder and suicide.

In the last one 100 years, life expectancy has increased and poverty decreased more due to capitalism then all the other economic models together over the previous 5000 years of recorded human history.

In a capitalist society we will always have income inequality because we will always have those that are more capable. The beauty of free market capitalism is that entrepreneurs produce a product or service that others buy voluntarily at the price they set. The greater number of people you make happy the wealthier you will become. Under socialism you will have more equality. Equality of poverty.

Mr. Bushey praises the western European social democratic model. This model has produced the greatest number of highly educated and unemployed young people. Those countries suffer from Euro-sclerosis. High unemployment, high taxation, low per capita GDP and stifling regulation.

Government is never the solution but only the problem. It’s like trying to give yourself a blood transfusion. When running the intravenous line from your left arm into your right arm, you spill most of your blood on the floor becoming severely anemic. This is the government dead weight loss. Government creates no wealth but only seizes and redistributes it.
