Charlevoix gets past North Bay in districts; Glen Lake advances

A strong season came to a close for North Bay Tuesday in a loss to district tournament host Charlevoix, 6-3.

North Bay (10-5-4) fell behind 2-0 early, but was able to tie the contest at 2-2. Charlevoix recaptured the lead with just 23 seconds in the first half, however, and never looked back.

“It was a rough night for us, and it’s always a tough way to end the season,” North Bay coach Tom Spencer said. “It was a tough draw, but the kids gave it their all. The future is really bright for North Bay.”

Sydney Deadman scored two goals and Emily Halverson scored the other for North Bay. Ciara Glynn and Sarah Reynolds had the assists.

Lakers breeze past Burt Lake

Glen Lake opened the district tournament with a bang on Tuesday, ousting Burt Lake NMC 9-0.

Lily Ewing, Gillian Gardner and Hanna Nowicki scored their first goals of the season in the win. Freshman Becca Nowicki started her second game in the net for the Lakers and earned her first shut out.

“We have continued to improve, every game, good or bad was a lesson,” coach Eric Luthardt said. “Throughout the season, we have shown we can move the ball against the best and our defense as a team is getting better and better. We just need to put it all together. We are looking forward to Elk Rapids.”

Glen Lake will take on the reigning champions in the first semifinal game of districts. The game will start at 4 p.m. in Charlevoix today.

Leland plays Charlevoix at 6 p.m.

“I’m looking forward to it,” coach Joe Burda said. “We are thought of as the underdogs and we will see how we play.”
