A weekend of graduations and graduation parties, weather was iffy but that didn’t deter the celebrations. Congratulations to all the graduates including my two granddaughters Hana Wilcox and Haley Gray.

High school is now behind you and I hope it was a great experience. Welcome to the real world.

This weekend is a free fishing weekend. No fishing license is required to fish inland lakes and Great Lakes waters for all species of fish. However fishing regulations still apply.

Leonard Marszalek, Glen Arbor Artist Association facilities manager, is looking to assemble a crew of volunteers to perform a critical task: keep the newly, hydro-seeded lawn watered. Hoses will need to be moved around through the day. We’re hoping the weather gods will look down fondly and deliver rain on a regular basis. If not, watering will continue for two weeks to get the new lawn started.

To help, contact Leonard Marszalek at the Glen Arbor Artist Association at 334- 6112.

The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes together with Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore initiated a program called Preventative Search and Rescue in 2017. Volunteers make friendly, educational contacts with visitors at the Dune Climb and at Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive (primarily stop number No. 9, the Lake Michigan overlook).

Most emergency calls are to these two places in the park. A little friendly advice and offering alternatives to visitors saves people from some serious health issues and I’m certain that this program has prevented some of the calls by Emergency Services to the Dune. Volunteers are needed to expand coverage times and areas of emphasis. Pyramid Point, for example, is another area that could use volunteers on Preventative Search and Rescue. If interested contact Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes.

This is the beginning of marathons and assorted fests. I will keep you informed as they come if I know about them.

Hopefully the construction and trucks will be completed soon, it’s hard enough getting around at this time of year without this congestion.
