Communities plan events for Roystons; $9,000 raised

There’s been a groundswell of support for Eric Royston and his family.

A benefit has been scheduled for Saturday, June 23, from 2-6 p.m. at the VFW Post in Lake Leelanau.

There will be a taco bar, beer from the Hop Lot and dessert from Chimoski Bakery as well as games, music and a silent auction.

A minimum donation of $10 per person is requested with a family donation of $30.

Royston’s neighbor, Justina Hlavka, is organizing the benefit. She has set up a GoFundMe account to help cover medical expenses.

“There’s been a lot of support and a number of people have stepped forward with donations and silent auction items,” she said.

As of yesterday morning, $8,995 had been generated in just five days through the crowd sourcing website. A goal of $40,000 has been set.

There’s also been a “for the benefit” of Royston account established at Chemical Bank in Suttons Bay.

Meals for the family are being organized through Meal Train, www.mealtrain.com.

For further information, to donate silent auction items or signup to volunteer at the benefit, call Hlavka at 231-392-2674.
