Town or township of residence: Empire

Resident since: I moved here from England 17 years ago.

Age and birthplace: I’m 61 and I was born in Dartford, just outside of London.

Occupation: My wife and I own a retail store.

Marital status: Happily married

You live in Leelanau County because: The first reason we moved here was so that my wife could be closer to her parents when they got older. The second reason is more obvious of course - Leelanau County is a beautiful place to live.

Last good movie you saw: “Darkest Hour.” I’ve always been a fan of Winston Churchill.

Last good book you read: I’m very fond of the Aubrey- Maturin series by Patrick O’Brian. They’re set during the Napoleonic Wars and are based on the story of a British captain.

If you could trade places with one person for one day, it would be: JFK because he certainly made a lasting impression on me during my formative years.

Things important to you that you’ve accomplished so far: I suppose I’m very proud of being involved with running the Asparagus Festival for the past 13 years. It’s become a very popular, funky little festival and I’ve really enjoyed watching it grow.

What you hope to be doing in 10 years: Exactly what I’m doing right now.

Things you lose sleep over: Nothing really; I like to roll with the punches.

If you could change one thing in Leelanau County it would be: I would encourage people to embrace change a little bit more readily.

Favorite dessert: If I had to eat it everyday, I’d choose apple pie and ice cream.

Are you a coffee drinker? Yes, just one cup in the morning. After that, it’s tea.

Favorite place in Leelanau County: Empire Beach

If you had more time you would: Probably play more golf.

The words that best describe you are: I’d say that I’m very consistently me - calm, steady and not overly exciting.
