Summer starts with wine festival, art

The Leland Chamber has big plans for the next two days. First will be a celebration of Leelanau’s rich artisan culture with an art walk from 5-9 Friday.

Then Saturday will bring the 33rd year of the venerable Leland Wine and Food Festival in the Leland Harbor from noon to 6 p.m. Enjoy local wines, brews and food; listen to Bad Jam and Knucklehead, and of course take in those beautiful views of Lake Michigan. Leland Lodge will host an “after-party” from 6-9 p.m.

How healthy are Leelanau lakes?

Find out at a symposium sponsored by the Leelanau Clean Water, a committee appointed by the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners to delve into such topics. Some 28 years of data taken from Glen Lake water samples will be discussed along with other environmental topics. The Leelanau Water Quality Symoposium will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Wednesday, June 13, at the Leelanau School. A $20 charge includes lunch. Call 256-9665.

Dance the night away in Empire

The Bayside Travellers Dance Society will host a contra-dance on Saturday from 7-10:30 p.m. at the Empire Town Hall. Aunt Lou and the Oakland County All-Stars will provide live music with dances called and taught by Glen Morningstar. No partner or experience needed. There is a charge.
