Unfortunately I’ve been so involved with trying to catch up after summer got here last week that I’ve missed a few things and I apologize.

It’s not like me as the uber patriot to miss what should be important dates to all Americans. First D-Day/Normandy, so many lives lost by heroes and patriots who should be honored.

D-Day is observed on June 6 each year to honor those men and women who fought made sacrifices on June 6th, 1944 in the battle located in Normandy, France during World War II. And today is Flag Day.

On May 30th, 1916, President. Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing a National Flag Day June on 14. Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the red, white and blue from their homes and businesses, I hope many did in our area.

Also today, at Empire Beach, there will be the presentation of the new Priority Mail Express Stamp showing Sleeping Bear Area.

The M-22 challenge went off and didn’t appear to have been too disruptive and not too challenging for people not in the race.

The next scheduled race in the area is the Glen Arbor Solstice Half Marathon and 5K. Saturday at 7 a.m.

Registration is on Friday between 5 and 7 p.m. or on race day at 5:30 a.m.

Attendees are asked to park in the row farthest from the dunes with automobile headlights facing M-109.

I hate to jinx the weather, but it looks like summer might just be here. I can tell the visitors think so too. Be careful out there on the roads, etc..

Be careful, be kind, have fun and be happy.

Go Patriotism.
