Civil War program

Learn about the role of local soldiers in the Civil War at the Northport Area Museum’s first program of the season tonight at 7. Scott Schwander, who has washed hundreds of graves of Civil War veterans, will speak. Also, anew light pole will be dedicated in memory of Martha Roberts at 6 p.m. with wine and cheese. A $5 donation is suggested.

Royston benefit set at VFW

A benefit for Eric Royston, Leelanau Montessori head of school, is set from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Leelanau VFW Hall. Royston is battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The Marine veteran is keeping his sense of humor as the event is called “Kiss My Pancreas.” Proceeds will help offset the family’s medical costs.

County women artists set show

An organization created to promote Leelanau County women in the arts through education, exhibition and professional development will display their members’ work this weekend.

Leelanau Women Artists, which was formed in 2010, is sponsoring a show in the Northport Arts Association building. The exhibit will kickoff on Friday from 2-7 p.m.; an opening reception is set for 5 p.m. It will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
