Big, historical weekend in park

The nonprofit Historic Sleeping Bear will be celebrating its 20th anniversary starting at 7p.m. Friday with a showing of “Barn Raisers” a film documentary, at the Olsen Barn. The birthday party continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a full day of family-fun activities at the Olsen homestead, site of the Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center. Then Saturday at 7 p.m., participants can spin their partners at a barn dance with live music and a caller.

C.S. Lewis part of church service

The views of Glen Lake can be inspirational, as can a church service.

The two will again combine on Sunday mornings this summer with “come as you are” gatherings at Old Settlers Park in Burdickville.

Discussions in July will relate to the Narnia series of books written by C.S. Lewis. In August, the theme will turn to the “Parables of Jesus.”

Beach Bards open 30th year

Some things never get old. The homespun comedy and music of Beach Bards will open for a 30th year starting at 8 p.m. Friday at the Leelanau School, 1 Old Homestead Road, Glen Arbor. Called “by heart” entertainment, the loose-knit troupe offers clean, family fun designed to get folks to put down their cell phones.
