Anishinaabe lecture series starts

Part one of a three-part lecture series entitled, “Pre and Post- AnishinaabeTalks,” will begin Tuesday with a focus on family and community. Educator of Anishinaabe culture JoAnne Cook will present at the Omena Presbyterian Church from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Topics include family, culture and generational dynamics, community life, division of labor and tribal sense of humor and entertainment. Lectures are free.

Series celebrates local writers

A series of talks celebrating local authors will kick off Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Leelanau Township Library. The Summer Writers’ Series will begin with Aaron Stander, author of eight murder mysteries set in and near Leelanau County. Presentations will continue through Aug. 7.

St. Mary annual summer festival

Mark your calendar for fun in the sun on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lake Leelanau St. Mary Church and School will host an annual summer festival that includes a grilled chicken dinner, food booths, bingo, a petting zoo, carnival games, karaoke and a talent stage. Mashed potatoes, baked beans, corn bread, cole slaw and dessert are included; children under four eat free.
