Meetings set in Northport

Questions how Leelanau Township can address an anticipated $866,000 shortfall in its 10-year-old municipal sewer bond obligation will be fielded at a special meeting set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the township Fire Hall. An assessment of $9,400 would be needed from each of the 94 households in the Sewer Assessment District outside the Village of Northport to pay off the bond.

Leland for art and books

Lovers of literature and art can combine their pursuits Saturday in Leland. The Friends of the Leland Township Library will offer what’s billed as a “giant book sale” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library. And the Leelanau Community Cultural Center will join with artisans to offer a 95-booth art sale nearby on the grounds of the Old Art Building from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shake hands with Lakeshore head

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore superintendent Scott Tucker will be shaking hands and fielding questions today at 6:30 p.m. at the Empire Township Hall. Tucker is expected to discuss Lakeshore operations, plans and long-term visions and goals.
