“Anchors Away!” for Empire

It will be all-day fun Saturday at the Empire Anchor Day, starting with a fun Run at 9 a.m. and highlighted by the Anchor Day Parade at 2 p.m. The Lions Club BBQ Chicken Dinner will be held the Empire Town Hall from 1-7 p.m. Wrap up the day with a Street Dance from 7-11 p.m. Be sure to bring chairs and dancing shoes.

Smart lawns for pollinators

Learn about amending soils and effective lawn care without chemicals Tuesday at Bluewater Hall, located off M-22 in Greilickville. Nate Walton, a master gardener for MSU, will speak at the Friendly Garden Club’s meeting. Club members and the public are welcome to join for lunch at 11:30 a.m.. Program begins at Noon. Call Beth at 932- 1916 to register for either the lunch or program.

Expert to present on rare songbird

Kirtland’s Warbler expert Dr. Dave Ewert will present a program Saturday at 9 a.m. about one of North America’s rarest migratory songbirds at Saving Birds Thru Habitat, 5020 N. Putnam Rd. With intensive habitat management, the bird’s population has increased to over 2,300 pairs. Call 271-3738 for additional information.
