Two used book sales planned

Two district libraries in the county are planning book sales.

The Friends of the Suttons Bay Library will be offering used books Saturday and Sunday at the library, which is within walking distance of the Suttons Bay Art Festival. The Glen Lake Library Annual Used Book Sale starts next Wednesday, Aug. 8, with a preview party at the Glen Arbor Town Hall. The sale continues Thursday and Friday.

Annual picnic set for 126th rendition

Attendees of the annual Old Settlers Picnic will feast on barbecued beef and local sweet corn prepared by members of the Empire Masonic Lodge. The event includes live music and dancing, a car show, assorted crafters and demonstrations, and of course the oldest and youngest attendee contest. A worship service will start at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

Fly or drive for your shortstack

The Northport Lions Club will be flipping flapjacks Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the annual Fly-in, Drive-in Pancake Breakfast hosted at the venerable Woolsey Memorial Airport. Smaller airplanes of many makes and models will be stopping by, and visitors will enjoy strolling by an antique car display. The Northport Community Band will provide breakfast music.
