Join in a Lakeshore walk

You can join Jerry Pearson in September for walks in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

The “Explore Sleeping Bear” hikes, like the Sunday morning worships he led this summer at Old Settlers Park, have become a tradition. They begin at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

“To me, those traditions instill a sense of community,” Pearson said. “Maybe they don’t make it to every one of them, but they have the opportunity.”

The hikes are usually 2-4 miles. They are planned for:

Sept. 2, at the Heritage Trail head in Empire at the corner of Voice and Bar Lake roads.

Sept. 9, at the Sleeping Bear Point Trail head past the Coast guard station in Glen Haven.

Sept. 16, at the Thoreson Road Trail head.

Sept. 23, at the Scenic Drive parking lot.

Sept. 30, at the Otter Creek parking area on Esch Road in Benzie County.
