Lakeshore featured in artist talk

Artist-in-residence Kathleen Kalinowski will share stories from her time in Leelanau tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Art Center. Kalinowski created drawings and paintings based on the themes of “nocturne” and “memory” as she spent her time this summer at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Tap your toes as fiddles play

Bring your lawn blanket or chair, sit back with a snack and listen to the music of K Jones and the Benzie Playboys Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Old Art Building in Leland. Cajun musicians will create toe-tapping authentic Louisiana dance music with traditional button accordions and fiddles and more. There is a charge.

Constitutional changes discussed

A “Ballot Initiatives Explained” workshop will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 5, at noon at the county Government Center. The League of Women Voters Leelanau County will sponsor the event. Topics will include ballot proposals for recreational marijuana, paid sick leave, gerrymandering and increasing the minimum wage.
