M-72 work nearly done

Drivers can now enjoy a smooth road along M-72 from M-22 in Empire to CR669. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) mill and resurface project is nearly complete.

“It is pretty much finished,” MDOT assistant construction engineer Carlo D’Alessandro said. “We have to add pavement markings and need to do some recessing - putting a dip where the marking goes.”

D’Alessandro said the project “went pretty easily.” He added the last stages would likely be finished Tuesday, dependent on rain and weather.

Unlike mill and resurfacing work completed in the last two weeks, the pavement markings should only take one day and should not influence traffic.

D’Alessandro added the project will finish in line with its estimate of $1,045,150.

MDOT has no other resurfacing projects planned in Leelanau County this year.
