A few weeks of quiet; how best to pass it on

Yippee! Summer’s over!

That’s one response to Labor Day weekend. Certainly many locals are smiling at the thought of not having to wait for all of five cars to get through intersections.

And residents will soon take advantage of having Good Harbor beach to themselves in September when — please keep this quiet — Lake Michigan is warmer than the Fourth of July.

Fall has become a short-yet-sweet shoulder season for residents interested in avoiding crowds. Leelanau turns back into a busy place when autumn colors show, with the pace of life peaking some time around Columbus Day weekend.

In the meantime, we’ll have a few weeks to reflect about how lucky we are to live here, and what we can do to pass the Leelanau gift on to a future generation.
