Local effects of U.S. policy

Learn more about how border policy hits close to home in ag-based Leelanau County Wednesday at 7 p.m. at a free program, “U.S. Border Policy and Its Impact on Leelanau County.” The Honorable Alan Bersin, former Commissioner for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, will address the impact of current immigration policies on area farmers. The program will be held at the Leelanau County Government Center.

Artsy show in Leland

Art is in the air this weekend, beginning tomorrow from 1 to 7 p.m. with the 2018 Leelanau Women Artists’ Annual Fall Show. An opening reception begins at 5 p.m. The show features painting, ceramics, basketry, glass work, jewelry and more by local women artists at the Old Art Building in Leland. Doors will re-open Saturday at 10 a.m. Patrons can enjoy the display until 5 p.m. Artwork may be purchased, there is no admission fee.

Dance the night away

Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to boogie Saturday night from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at St. Rita’s Fall Dance at St. Rita’s / St. Joe’s Hall. Music for the evening will be provided by Ray Watkoski Family, featuring Maple City’s Polka King Bobby Atkinson. The cost is $15 per person, children 16 and under are free when accompanied by parents. For more information, call 228-6641.
