Glenn Goris
1923-2010
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, for Glenn Goris of Empire who died July 28 at Munson Hospice House. He was 86.
He was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Clarence and Suzan (Bylsma) Goris. On July 20, 1944, he married Eleanor “Jean” Rhodes who preceded him in death on March 16, 2002.
He served as a Navy officer in the Pacific during World War II and participated in the battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Returning home to Ohio, he started his own independent insurance office, later adding a real estate development company. A seasonal visitor to Glen Lake since 1963, he retired in 1990 and moved there permanently with his wife. He was active in the local community and his church.
He is survived by his sons, Gregory (Cynthia) Goris of Commerce Township and Bradley (Suzan) Goris of Ohio; his daughter, Greta (Westbrook) Walker of Kentwood; his special friend Jane Maatman of Glen Lake; and four grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Joy.
