Hugh E. Cook Sr.
1928-2010
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church of the United Church of Christ in Northport, with visitation one hour prior to the service, for Hugh “Bud” Edwin Cook Sr. of Northport who died Aug. 31 at Tendercare of Leelanau. He was 82.
He was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Traverse City, the son of Clarence and Ina (Clawson) Cook. On Dec. 10, 1949, in Suttons Bay, he married Virginia E. Smith, who preceded him in death on April 17, 2000.
From his home base in Cincinnati, he traveled all over the world for his custom welding business. He later became a plant manager at Cherry Growers in Omena. In January, after attaining the rank of captain, he retired after 57 years of service from the Northport/Leelanau Township Fire Department. He loved to hunt, play golf, and was a great story teller.
He is survived by his children, Hugh (Martha) Cook Jr., Stephen Cook, Lisa Denham and her partner John, and Timothy (Vicki) Cook; four grandsons and one great-grandson.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Daniel.
Burial was to be held at a later date in Leelanau Township Cemetery. The family is being served by the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Memorials may be directed to the Leelanau Township Fire Department, P.O. Box 338, Northport, MI 49670.
