A memorial service was held in Petoskey on Monday followed by a burial service on Mackinac Island for former Leelanau County resident Michael D. McDonald of Alanson who died Oct. 17 in Bellville. He was 61.
He was born Feb. 22, 1949, in Cincinnati, a son of Paul E. McDonald, who survives, and the late Jean Anne (Duey) Fuller.
He attended Leland Public School and graduated from Traverse City Senior High in 1967. He attended Methodist University, Central Michigan University, and the U.S. Army Military Intelligence School. He had an extensive military and government career, including service as an intelligence/operations analyst, and was a noted counterterrorism expert.
He is also survived by his son, Michael D.McDonald of Rhode Island, his former wife, Cathleen Donahue of Rhode Island, sisters, Catherine (Ken) Greenhoe of Alanson and Sylvia Bullard of Alabama; and a brother, James C. McDonald.
