William C. Whitney

Services were held Tuesday at the Keswick United Methodist Church for William “Bill” C. Whitney of Suttons Bay who died Aug. 20 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. He was 90.
He was born in Fullerton, Neb., on June 28, 1920, the son of Barlow and Lena (Price) Whitney. On Dec. 12, 1970, in Deerfield Ill., he married Joan Frances Wynkoop, who survives.
He was an Army officer during World War II,, serving in combat throughout Europe. Returning home, he graduated from Loyola University in 1948 and worked as a banker. He spent 32 years with Old Kent Bank in Grand Rapids, retiring on June 30, 1986 as senior vice president, cashier and secretary of the board, and a director of the bank.
Also surviving are his children, Bill (Judy) Whitney of Tucson, Ariz., Dave (Terri) Whitney of Grand Rapids, Terri (Terri) Wing of Grand Rapids, Sherri (Chuck) Luna of Boulder, Colo., Jonathan (Lily) Whitney of Miami, Fla., and Laura “Weezie” of Chicago; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Frankie, Louise, Ardene, Riel, and Barlow.
Burial was at Keswick Maple Grove Cemetery. The family was being served by the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Memorials may be directed to Keswick United Methodist Church, 3376 S. Center Hwy., Suttons Bay, MI 49682.
