On the girls side, volleyball teams advanced to the state  nals in 1987 and 2001.
While a story told less often, the community is also known for its artsy side. It boasts
one of the  nest high school auditoriums around and a nonpro t, the Friends of Fine Arts (FOFA), that annually awards scholarships and promotes music and acting at Suttons Bay High School.
The ever-popular Suttons Bay Art Festival, set this summer for Aug. 4-5 along the shoreline, is entering its 39th year.
“A committee of volunteers oversees the selection
of visiting artists and the distribution of funds generated by the event,” its website reads. “Thousands of dollars have been contributed to local arts-related education projects. These include music and dance performances, artist in residence programs and scholarships for local art students.”

Suttons Bay takes no back seat in athletic prowess, having won a boys’ district basketball crown the last two seasons
and advanced to the state Class C  nal in 2012 with the help of state Mr. Basketball Dwaun Anderson. The football team played in the state championship game in 2004 and captured an 8-man District title last fall.
