The accolades for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are nearly as numerous as the lists the park appears on.
Recall, it was named the “Most Beautiful Place in America” by ABC in 2011, the winner of an online contest. The nation’s best-kept vacation secret had been found.
What’s the draw?
According to Cary, Ill., resident Linda Hickok, who has visited the county each year since she was a small child, natural beauty brings her back.
“It’s about the lake, it’s about the sand dunes, it’s about the beauty of Lake Michigan,” she says.
