Open Carry Prohibition at Polling and Counting Places

Two new bills, HB 4127 and HB 4128 are moving through the Michigan Legislature with a sure bet they will land on Governor Whitmer’s desk soon... and she will likely sign them into law. What do these two bills do for Michigan citizens? They offer a significant measure of peace of mind for those going to the polls as they will prohibit open carry of firearms within100feetof polling places or a counting board place. Just seeing a person open carry can be extremely intimidating and may give someone pause before they go to the polls to exercise their constitutional right to vote. And we want everyone to exercise their right to vote in a safe space. Sadly, Representative John Roth(R) voted against both bills. Not sure how he would explain that he supports firearm carrying at our polling and counting places but a good question to ask him.
