Yes to solar power

To the editor: I applaud the Leelanau County Commissioners who voted recently to apply for a grant to build a solar array at the government center campus. Like many people in this area, my husband and I initially questioned whether solar panels made sense in Northern Michigan.

To the editor:

I applaud the Leelanau County Commissioners who voted recently to apply for a grant to build a solar array at the government center campus. Like many people in this area, my husband and I initially questioned whether solar panels made sense in Northern Michigan. However, after doing a little research, we decided to install solar panels at our home in 2019 and have been very happy with the results. Despite Michigan’s gray winters, the panels have consistently produced more electricity than we consume when averaged over twelve month periods. Aside from normal household needs, this consumption includes charging an electric car and a battery-powered riding lawn mower. With more and more evidence that the planet is facing a climate crisis, adopting innovative, greener technologies as quickly as possible is of great importance. My hope is that Leelanau County can be a leader in that effort.
