Do they care?

To the editor: The GOP response to President Biden’s State of the Union address was a vapid, emotionally overacted, Sally Struthers-like performance completely devoid of content. That party putting their chosen representative, a woman, in a kitchen says everything we need to know about their wished for reversion to an imagined golden past.

To the editor:

The GOP response to President Biden’s State of the Union address was a vapid, emotionally overacted, Sally Struthers-like performance completely devoid of content. That party putting their chosen representative, a woman, in a kitchen says everything we need to know about their wished for reversion to an imagined golden past. “We hear you” was her dramatized message to her intended audience of middle class America, assuming that many would identify with her warm, homey setting. But they offered nothing.

Who does her party actually listen to?

They were the party that gave tax breaks to the wealthiest. Sensing public outcry, they are scrambling to find a way for IVF to work around the confines of a law they enacted that made clinics and practitioners stop offering it. Under their most recent leader, the number of people lacking health insurance rose by three million. In spite of his “promises made”, our country lost 154,000 manufacturing jobs, 50,000 of them before the COVID pandemic. Trade deficit rose by 40.5%. In 2020, before Covid, the murder rate increased to the highest since 1997.

The country needs and is demanding a solution to the problem of illegal immigration, particularly on it’s southern border. A proposal to help secure our border was worked out with agreement of both parties. But when the former president demanded it not be brought up for a vote because he didn’t want the problem addressed by the current administration, the republicans caved.

They claim to listen. Do they care?
