In support of March is Reading Month, St. Mary Art and Elementary School faculty members organized a literacy event for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

“Pop Open a Good Book” was the event theme and the night began with a Disney trivia game. All students received a passport to five interactive reading stations. The stations consisted of a book nook where the students and parents were encouraged to read in a tent. There was a live turtle and rabbit (the tortoise and the hare), as well as other stuffed animals. The students were encouraged to read to the animals.

At the story telling station, Paula Alflen, captivated the students with her narration and portrayal of tales and chronicles. Another station consisted of a word game that inspired letter play. The next station consisted of a visit to the school library where students received a free book and had an opportunity to sign up for a library card with the Suttons Bay Bingham District Library staff.
