Edwin “Ed” Vincent Blasius, 75, of Springfield, set sail on his final journey on Friday, March 8th, 2024, from Springfield Memorial Hospital. Born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 15, 1948, Ed was a son of Clarence Vincent and Mary Ella Williams Blasius. Ed graduated from Caro High School, and later attended Oakland University where he earned a Bachelor of Science as well as meeting the love of his life. From Oakland, Ed went on to become a diehard Wolverine fan while earning a Master of Science from the University of Michigan.
On November 2, 1973, Ed married Sandra J. “Sandy” Nightingale in Redford, MI. Together, they raised a loving family of three children and 10 grandchildren. A dedicated husband, father, and lover of leisure, if you didn’t find Ed at home, work, or church, there was a good chance he was in Northern Michigan, boating, swimming, cooking, or watching the sun set behind the Sleeping Bear Dunes. At one time or another, Ed’s other adventures took him SCUBA diving, skiing, golfing, or photographing the fall leaves.
For 38 years he served his friends, family and community as an agent for State Farm where he was highly respected by his clients and colleagues. Also known for his wit or his wisdom, Ed’s generous spirit extended beyond his family. He volunteered his time and talents to organizations close to his heart, including Christ the King, Sacred Heart-Griffin, Franciscan Missions, and Habitat for Humanity. Ed was a dedicated member of Christ the King parish in Springfield, IL and St. Phillip Neri in Empire, MI.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind a loving family to carry on his legacy: his wife, Sandy of Springfield; son, Aaron (Shye Jones-Blasius) Blasius of Seattle, WA; daughters, Kristen ( Jake) McCormick of Columbia Falls, MT and Michelle (Chad) Lucas of Cantrall, IL; ten grandchildren, Lia and Remi Blasius, Ella, Mila, Blaise, and Lela McCormick, and Kipton, Bennett, Kelby, and Emerson Lucas; brother, Tom (Terry) Blasius; nieces, Kelli Hollingsworth of Sarasota, FL, and Crystal (Greg) Hagemann of Saint Clair Shores, MI; nephew, Sean Blasius of North Branch, MI; and numerous cousins.
We will miss his smile, sense of humor, and generosity and wish him Godspeed on his journey.
