To the editor:

I owe former Vice President Pence a debt of gratitude. On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence remained at our nation’s capitol to complete the day’s business of certifying the 2020 election results. He stayed even after the secret service wanted him to leave because of threats to his life. People outside chanted, hang Mike Pence.

Vice President Pence wrote a letter to his colleagues and stated, “It is my considered judgement that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not.”
