1925 ~ 2024

William Glenn Meteer, of Maple City, passed away 10 days shy of his 99th Birthday on Wednesday, March 13. He was surrounded by family.

Glenn was born on March 23, 1925 to Ralph and Myrtle (Freeman) Meteer in Maple City, Michigan and lived his entire life on the family farm. He met the love of his life, Shirley Buell, at a dance in Thompsonville, and they married on May 19, 1951 in Bear Lake, Michigan. Together, they raised five children. Glenn took immense pride in his family and cherished their years spent together.

Glenn worked for a number of firms over the years driving trucks, and these jobs helped him make contacts in the community. After retiring from truck driving in 1982, he returned to the family farm full time selling DeKalb Corn to local farmers. He also sold steer calves and lambs to local 4-H kids and provided guidance on how to raise and care for the animals. Glenn was a familiar face at community gatherings, from birthday parties to weddings, and he particularly relished attending both the Old Settlers Picnics and the Buckley Old Engine Show. He was such a fixture in the area that it is said that Glenn knew everyone in Leelanau County -- except for those who moved in fifteen minutes ago.

He enjoyed farming, dancing with his wife, hunting, restoring vintage tractors (some of which came to him in boxes), cutting lumber for friends and family in his sawmill, visiting with friends and neighbors, and eating the occasional piece of pie (of which he had two favorites – hot and cold). Glenn took pride in maintaining his health and remained enthusiastic about life until the very end.

Glenn approached life with a big heart. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and his unwavering devotion to his family, church, and community. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love and zest for life will continue to inspire generations to come. Surviving Glenn are his children Pamela (Jerome) Peplinski, Beth (Mark) Peplinski, Patrick (Deborah) Meteer, Matthew (Karen) Meteer, and Jo (Max) Wolfe; 12 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Shirley; his siblings Vera Jordan, Ford Meteer, Reva Kologe, Gayle Chrestensen, Vern Meteer, and Eugene Meteer.

A visitation will be held at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am, on April 27th at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church which is located at 4902 W. MacFarlane Rd, Glen Arbor, MI 49636. A luncheon will follow the service. Afterward, you are invited to join his funeral procession past the family farm to Rosehill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. Kindly share thoughts, memories and stories with his family at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.
