Leland standout soccer player Agustin Creamer committed to Alma College last week in front of his peers, teachers, coaches, and family.
“I know soccer is just a sport for a lot of people, but for me, it’s a whole different thing,” Creamer said. “(Soccer) is something that I train for every day and something that I put a lot of work and passion into ... Knowing that I’ll be able to play soccer at the next level means a lot,” Creamer said.
Creamer knew he wanted to stay close to home, selecting Alma, which is a roughly 2.5 hours drive from Leland.
“I came to the decision that I would like to go to a smaller college and preferably be able to play soccer there,” Creamer said. “I was looking for a major that was more towards economics or business and Alma had all of those things that I was looking for. I visited there, the coaching staff, the people there, and all that was great.”
Creamer will have the chance to compete right away for an Alma Scots team that went 4-112 in 2023. The Scots finished 1-8-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAA).
The standout soccer defender finished second for the Enterprise Soccer Dream Team Most Valuable Player in the Fall of 2023 thanks to his lockdown defensive skills, along with complimentary offensive skills.
“I played here in Leland and North Storm (travel team) and now I have to adapt to the style of playing that Alma has, their tactical game,” Creamer said. “It’s something I’d have to adapt too and keep working on those things defensively that will make me improve to earn playing time.”
Creamer was a contributor on varsity ever since his freshman season, and led his team to three state semifinal appearances during his soccer career. Wherever the Scots decide to play Creamer, they are getting a well-rounded athlete with a deep knowledge of the game. From his defensive position, Creamer served up six assists to his teammates during the 2023 campaign.
The rising 4.0 senior student could pick from his choosing where to attend higher education.
“I was always interested in business ... I’ve been taking in school some online courses related to business and economics and that’s something that really caught my attention, something that I enjoy learning about and something that I would like to learn more about in college,” Creamer said.
Creamer is first focused on finishing his senior year on a high note as he will be competing alongside the state’s best in long distance track events.
“I’ve been training a lot for track and I look forward to that, but I just wanna enjoy the last couple of months with my friends and make the most out of the senior year,” Creamer said.
