Spring activities dominated conversation this week by the Leland Township Board.
The board during its regular monthly meeting Monday acted on proposals that signal the arrival of spring and warmer weather.
They approved sidewalk replacement on Grand Avenue and River Street in the unincorporated village of Leland. They also agreed to seek an estimate for sidewalk replacement on the north side of M-204 in Lake Leelanau.
However, the board tabled approval of a request for proposals (RFP) for repairs to the exterior of the harbor restroom.
Supervisor Susan Och described spalling of the concrete and the hand railing as well as cracks in the concrete walls. The RFP asked that the work be completed in May and June or after the busy summer activity in September. Board members questioned whether more extensive work is needed to determine the source of damage caused by water.
“It can be sealed to prevent further damage, but is the underlying issue address?” Clerk Lisa Brookfield asked.
Och will reach out to engineers to determine the next course of action.
The Leland Township Parks and Recreation Committee has extended the deadline for completion of a survey which will be used to develop the next fiveyear Community Recreation Plan (CRP) for 2025-2029.
Tim Zywicki, representing the Parks and Recreation Committee reported that to date, 228 persons responded to the survey.
The Committee is seeking public input via this survey and other research to help inform the development of a long-range CRP with objectives and priorities that meet the needs and interests of Township residents, area residents and visitors year ‘round.
This survey is important to planning for future needs and takes 8-10 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous. The survey is open through April 30, 2024.
