The main meal has been ordered for Kids Fishing Day.
The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday allocated $8,566 for 2,000 adult bluegills, which will be planted leading up to the community event set for Sunday, June 30.
Businesses and private organizations contribute approximately the same amount, providing plenty of activity for the 600 or so folks that normally attend Kids Fishing Day. The event, held at fishing ponds in Veronica Valley County Park, includes free hot dogs and pop, fly fishing and fish cleaning demonstrations, and an amphibian display with locally caught — and released — bullfrogs, turtles and snakes.
