Hot start continues for Leland

Last week, the Leland girls’ soccer team suffered a loss to Grand Rapids West Catholic (GRWC), but they bounced back with a pair of wins, showing the Comets’ resilience.

The Comets traveled to Elk Rapids on Friday to face GRWC and Elk Rapids in a tournament..

Leland fell to GRWC 2-1, before defeating Elk Rapids 2-1. Emerie Burda had the lone goal scored on a penalty kick in the loss.

Goalscorers against the Elks were Lilly Connor and Waskiewicz to seal the win.

Leland defeated Kingsley 7-3 on Monday in complete domination.

The Comets led at halftime 3-0 and were led by Leland sophomore Addi Waskiewicz with four goals. Three other goal scorers included Kally Sluiter, Willa Murray, and Cameron Flees. Wakiewicz, Hadley Bison, and Ariah Amin each had one assist.

Although the Comet lost to GRWC they are still 6-1 overall and undefeated 3-0 in the Northwest Conference. This is the best start for the Comets since 2019.

Leland defeated the TC Bulldogs 4-0 on Wednesday, April 10. Comet goal scorers include Flees with an assist from Bison 39 seconds into the game. Leland senior Mallory Lowe scored two goals. Waskiewicz, Amin, and Willa Murray each scored one goal.

The Comets battled Buckley, yesterday as of press time. Leland travels to Benzie Central on Monday, April 22, and then, on Thursday, April 25 the Comets travel to the Harbor Springs Invite.
