The St. Mary School Physics Class
The St. Mary School Physics Class, under the direction of faculty member Kate Paulson, recently spent an afternoon at the Traverse City Curling Club. Students observed how the fiction created by sweeping and using a heavy granite stone, melted the ice and produced a thin layer of water. This in turn allowed the stone to slide more easily since the friction between the stone and the water is less than the friction between the stone and the ice. Above, St. Mary Junior, Leah Plamondon, test her skills at the recent field trip.
