Glen Lake baseball found it's groove on the artificial turf of the Traverse City Pitspitters at Turtle Creek Stadium on Saturday with a pair of wins over Suttons Bay and Harbor Spring.
In the morning game, Glen Lake took on rival Suttons Bay and won 8-2 behind a 13-strikeout performance by senior Cooper Bufalini. The senior allowed one hit during the win.
Suttons Bay pitcher Gavin Schichtel struck out five in the loss, and senior Tyler Porter pitched three innings in relief. Norsemen juniors Jackson Loucks and Graham Martin each earned a hit on Bufalini.
Glen Lake junior Peter Gelsinger (2 H, 4 RBI) and Isaac Hlavka (2 H, 2 RBI) led the Lakers from the plate. In game two, Suttons Bay lost to Harbor Spring 11-1.
The Norsemen jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Schichtel drew a walk, scoring one run. Harbor Springs took the lead in the bottom of the second 2-1 after stonewalling the Norsemen momentum.
Harbor Springs went yard in the third inning and opened up the door for the Rams for the rest of the game.
Suttons Bay pitcher Lucas Gordon held up strong in the loss by striking out five.
Loucks, Porter, and Graham Martin each had a hit.
Despite earning seven walks and stealing two bases, runners were left stranded resulting in only one run for the Norsemen.
Glen Lake took care of business in the third game with a 16-2 win over Harbor Springs.
Laker junior Benji Allen went four innings and struck out 11 in the win, while Isaac Hlavka threw three strikeouts to close out the win.
Allen added three hits and four RBI from the plate, while Cooper Bufalini (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Tanner Crick (single, double, 2 RBI), Joey Rioux (2 hits, 3 RBI).
Lakers dominate Panthers
Glen Lake (8-1-2, 2-0) continued its winning ways during a double-header against Frankfort with a pair of wins 13-0, 17-0.
Bufalini grabbed a win in game one with 10 strikeouts in five innings. Peter Gelsinger hand a double and four RBIs, while Allen produced two RBIs.
Allen returned to the mound in game two, only needing to pitch three innings with seven strikeouts in the 17-0 win.
Bufalini led from the plate in game two with a double and three RBIs, while Fletcher Middleton had two hits.
Glen Lake will be hosting the Laker Invitational on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m.
Norsemen rebound against Onekama
Suttons Bay (4-5, 4-0) bounced back with poise on Tuesday with a 14-0 and 10-2 win over Onekama.
Suttons Bay pitcher Lucas Gordon earned the win in game one with nine strikeouts while allowing two hits. Jackson Louck had a double and scored three runs, and Gordon chipped in two RBIs. Gavin Schichtel went 3-3 and scored three times as well.
In game two, Schichtel earned the win with nine strikeouts. Joe Howard led with two hits, three runs, and a double. Loucks and Schichtel both got on base with a hit.
Eagles split against Sabres
The Eagles split on the road against TC Christian on Monday 3-9, 10-9.
A fourth-inning five-run storm from TC Christian provided the catalyst to win game one.
In game two, the Eagles won in the sixth inning behind an error by TC Christian to jump into a 10-8 lead in the top of the sixth. The Eagle defense held out for the win.
Eagle senior Jerry Schaub earned the win on five strikeouts, giving up five runs on four hits.
St. Mary’s Eli Kelenske started the game and threw three innings before Schaub came in the game.
St. Mary was led by James Bunek 3-4 performance at the plate while the team totaled 11 hits in game two. Pieter Hamilton and Kelenske each drove in a run. Schaub stole two bases, while the team combined for six during the win.
St. Mary hosts Suttons Bay on Friday at 4:15 p.m.
