LEELANAU HISTORY

A $1 million proposal to build sidewalks along both sides of M-22 in Greilickville so signalized pedestrian crosswalks can be installed along Leelanau County’s busiest thoroughfare may be coming to Elmwood Township soon. Elmwood Township Supervisor Jeff Shaw says he’s been very busy this winter. Shaw is the private owner of a substantial amount of property along the M-22 commercial corridor in the southeast corner of Leelanau County, including his own chiropractic clinic directly across from the township marina. *** Petitions to recall Kasson Township Clerk Traci Cruz have been prepared and will be the subject of a hearing by the Leelanau County Election Commission on Tuesday. The purpose of the hearing is to determine whether reasons stated for the recall are both clearly stated and factual. Recall petitions filed last week at the county Government Center say that Cruz should be recalled from office because she has failed to attend regular meetings of the Kasson Township Board for six months.
